East Kilbride 2 Gretna FC 2008 3

East Kilbride 2 – 3 Gretna FC 2008
K Park, East Kilbride 1st November 2014

In a game which ebbed and flowed as two evenly matched teams played an attacking game, it was Gretna who secured the three points.

Gretna FC 2008 opened the scoring when Adam Main struck a lightning strike from 20 yards after good work by Brandon Longcake. It was to prove a short lived lead however as Jonnie Blake was penalised for a push on Victoria in the penalty box. Victoria took the resulting penalty himself to even the score.

Minutes later the pace of Victoria left the Gretna defence in his wake as he broke through to put the ball low in the corner of the net, giving Wright no chance. Wright was again in action shortly before the interval when he brought off a great save from Tom Collins. So the sides went into the interval with the homesters leading 2-1.

Longcake continued to make life difficult for Kilbie in the second half and ten minutes in struck from range to level the scores. Craig Gordon, in the EK goal made a double save from Brandon Longcake and Iain Anderson but it only postponed the inevitable. In the 66th minute Longcake caused all kinds of confusion in the East Kilbride defence which Iain Anderson capitalised on to take the lead.

East Kilbride continued to fight for the equaliser but it was Gretna who almost went further ahead. In the 70th minute Anderson and Milligan combined but couldn’t put the ball away. Play switched immediately to the other end and it was East Kilbride who looked dangerous. However they were awarded a free kick which they couldn’t convert.

With the Gretna contingent praying for the final whistle, Gretna held on for three points in an enthralling and entertaining contest.
